Daily Schedule ● ● ● School day: 8: 50 - 3: 30 M-TH & 8: 50 -2: 05 Fri. Classes are 52 min. M-TH and 42 min. Fridays 5 minute passing between periods No recess Lunches are 35 min. - 3 lunches for each grade level

Enrollment in English classes ● Honors - (Study. Sync) ● General grade level course - Most students (Study. Sync) ● English Support - More than 2 grade levels below according to i. Ready scores. Students who are struggling WILL be placed in two periods of ELA until they have made increases to access grade level curriculum.
Registration and Course Selection Powerschool Registration opened on Saturday, Feb. 1 st. Access through parent portal to confirm information. If you need help, contact elementary office. Course selection forms will be given to elementary students the week of February 10 th. They will be due to the elementary teacher/office by Thursday, February 20 th. Students who are enrolled in an FCUSD school, but not a feeder elementary school will receive a form at their elementary site this week. Families who are not enrolled in an FCUSD school currently, but live in SMS boundaries, may pick up registration materials on or after March 2 nd. Classes filling are not on a first come first serve basis. Sutter Feeder Elementaries = SJGE, TJE, NSE, CSE, GRE and BSE
Course Selection(cont. ) ● ● Zero period is an option for students who would like to participate in both Music and Spanish 1 A. Parents choose their child’s elective or the STEM Academy. Please number 1 -2 on the form in case you don’t get your first choice. Students on IEP’s will have a transition meeting to update their IEP in the Spring; Sutter staff will be in attendance to assist.
6 th Elective Options Please check Counselors’ Section of SMS website for elective descriptions: Exploratory Wheel- Three separate trimester courses such as technology, study skills or art. Students do not have a choice on what they get. Spanish 1 A- Year one of a two-year program equivalent to high school Spanish 1. Intermediate band/orchestra- Sign ups depend on instrument played Chorus- Students must enjoy singing Yearbook- Application available online

Foreign Language electives and sequence ● Spanish- Spanish 1 A, Spanish 1 B, Spanish 2. ● Spanish courses are rigorous; nightly practice is a requirement. ● A’s and B’s highly recommended before starting in a foreign language. ● 8 th graders may not select Spanish 1 A. ● Reminder: Elective descriptions can be found in counseling section on SMS website.
STEM Academy Information on the Web Site! ● Students are chosen on a lottery system. ○ ○ No testing If first choice is STEM be sure to have a second choice option selected ● Technology elective is built into schedule. ● Students cannot take zero period, Honors English, or skip a math level. ● Students travel together from class to class with the same set of teachers. ● 3 6 th grade sections=105 students & 2 7 th grade sections= 70 students
Advanced Courses ● Honors English 6 th-8 th- Placement test will be offered to eligible students on Friday, 3/13 at 3: 00 p. m. A’s/B’s and qualifying i-Ready scores(609). ● Pre-AP Math Course 1 - Placement based on grades and i-Ready. ● Pre-AP Math Course 2 - Placement based on grades, i-Ready and an 80% on math challenge test given on April 17 th. ● Letters are sent through elementary sites regarding eligibility. ● See Sutter Middle School website for more information. ● Please email counselors if you have questions.
Communication Email is best! We are here to help! Teachers- Connect with teachers when you have questions/concerns about their specific class. Look on SMS website for classwork, homework, teacher info. Counselors- Connect with your child’s counselor when there academic, social or emotional concerns. Review counseling section of SMS website. Assistant Principals- Connect with an AP when there is a discipline issue. There is also an anonymous online bullying report form parents can access on the SMS website.
Stay Connected Sutter Middle School website- See the website for elective course descriptions, math pathways, teacher information and assignments, clubs, counselor section. Daily bulletin has a lot of information. Explore your TEACHER websites after you get your child’s schedule. Power. School- online program to track grades. Check it regularly to understand student’s progress. There is also an app. PTA - You can sign up for PTA information on Facebook and they will push out notifications.
Options after school ● The CAVE- Supervised after school program run by the City of Folsom ○ ○ ○ $175 per year Open until 6 PM Mon-Thurs. Fridays until 5: 30 PM City of Folsom website ● Clubs- Vary per year - see website ● Sports ○ ○ Select: Volleyball, Basketball No Tryouts: Cross-Country, Wrestling, Track/Field ● Library hours: 8: 00 AM - 3: 50 PM ● Homework Club- Mondays/Wednesdays from 3: 30 -4: 30 in library ○ Begins in September - read bulletin or see website for start date
WEB Orientation WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) ● 8 th grade students work with incoming 6 th graders to make them feel more welcome and to transition successfully ● WEB orientation will be held on August 5 th. More information to come ● Ongoing team building activities throughout school year: advisory activities, socials, tours
