At the end of this course students should be able to say the following “I can…” statements. Schoology is required! This is where all class information (including homework) will be posted. This course is conducted in French. Immersion is proven to be the most effective path to proficiency in a second language. It is normal for students to feel frustrated and lost at the beginning. Trust the process. We will have time dedicated to speaking English and clearing up misunderstandings. ● ● ● ● ● Communicate on familiar topics using words, phrases and simple sentences (sometimes memorized) Ask and answer simple questions and give basic information Write brief paragraphs about familiar topics in present tense Restate information using present and immediate future time frames on everyday life Read and understand simple texts on familiar topics and sometimes locate the main idea Understand words, phrases and simple sentences on familiar topics and sometimes the main topic of what is being said Present basic information on familiar topics Recite songs and short skits Gesture to enhance comprehension, use connecting words, prepositions and high frequency phrases

To not be afraid of a second language environment Take risks and break down the filter (it’s ok to make mistakes) To be able to infer and circumlocute (guess meaning and use what you know) To use the second language 100% of the time To participate and be a part of a community To cultivate intrinsic motivation and student empowerment Using speaking, listening, reading and writing strategies we will explore the following topics as well as target language cultural awareness through music, video, literature and other authentic materials. These topics will be practiced in present and immediate future time frames throughout the course. Other topics will be explored based on student interest. Themes: ● Welcome to French: introductions, greetings, alphabet, numbers, calendar, weather, classroom expressions, etc ● Likes and Dislikes / Leisure activities ● The classroom ● In town / Sports / Paris ● The Family ● Clothing and Shopping / Food and Cafés ● The House / Home Technology: **See last page for Virtual Instruction Information -Laptops will be used at the individual discretion of the teacher. - Students will be assigned regular homework assignments that require internet access. If you do not have internet access at home, please see me for an individual plan. - Late assignments due to technology problems will be treated as any other late assignment and deductions and/or no credit given will be determined on a case by case basis. -Neither the teacher, nor the school is responsible for broken, stolen, or lost laptops, tablets, phones, or other technology items. Cheating: Is a serious offense. Plagiarism of any kind is cheating. Google translate or other tools used that do not reflect the child’s true growth in WL will be seen as an act of cheating. Zeros can and will be given for any work that was taken from any outside source. Class expectations: 1. Always Respect 2. Always Participate 3. Always in Target Language 4. Always Prepare 5. 3 bathroom passes every 9 weeks 6. No food in class. 7. No unauthorized cell phone use. Consequences: warning, conference, phone call home, referral to administration (steps may be skipped due to severity of offense) Grades & Make-ups --Daily grades -30% of your nine week grade. Test (this includes quizzes) grades- 70% of your nine week grade. The final exam is worth one-fifth of your final average. --Make up Policy- After an excused absence, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain and complete makeup assignments in a timely manner. All lesson plans are posted each week for the students to check after an absence. Homework will be posted on SCHOOLOGY! Homework should be completed and turned in the next day (except for extended absences). Tests, quizzes, and oral activities should be made up on Friday mornings at 7: 15 in B 216 or during Patriot Path when offered. Students are encouraged to be prompt in order to complete the work by 8: 00 am. . (All tests will be taken up at that time)
