49 Internships Histology Lab Internship Program 49 Name: Histology Core Internship In Program Coordinator: Hans Snyder Target Audience: 11 th and 12 th grade high school students Number of Students: 2 per 8 -week session Location: LSBC Histology Lab Brief Description: The goal of this program is to train students to create slides from five different tissues. Topics covered include cassette making and labeling, fixation, processing, embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping.
16 Summer Programs Program Name: Frontiers Women’s Leadership Academy: Setting your Future Directions Program Sue Sontgerath 49 Coordinator: 16 In S Program Instructor: Sharon Wulf Target Audience: Rising 11 th and 12 th grade students Location: WPI Brief Description: This program seeks to encourage young women to pursue studies and a career in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/ or management while providing them with the knowledge and tools to become successful in their chosen field.
15 After-School Programs Program Name: Tech Girls Program Coordinator: Julia Sorcinelli Office of Multicultural Affairs 15 49 16 th th Target Audience: 6 to 8 grade girls In S Number of Students: P Location: WPI Day/Time: Wednesdays 4 – 6 P Brief Description: Tech Girls seeks to encourage girls to pursue studies and a career in the STEM fields by exposing them to different fields of science and engineering along with positive female role models. During each session, WPI students and faculty facilitate a wide variety of handson activities that promote creativity, problem solving, and teamwork.

Elholm/Sue Sontgerath Target Audience: Middle school students (grades 6 – 8) 15 53 49 16 Number of Students: Groups of 10 – 40 per session In Location: WPI S P I Day/Time: Wednesdays 9 – 12 AM Brief Description: Engineering ambassadors work to engage younger generations in the excitement of STEM fields while garnering key leadership, presentation, and project management skills for their own educational and professional development. As part of the middle school tour, the Engineering Ambassadors accomplish this by leading hands-on engineering design activities.

Students explore what a smart damper is used for, investigate how a smart infrastructure is built, see applications of physics concepts such as force, and gain exposure to concepts of structural vibration control.
