PLOT DEFINED Plot is the organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story. Every plot is made up of a series of incidents that are related to each other

EXPOSITION • Setting is introduced- (time and place of the story) • Some or all of the characters are introduced • When the conflict enters the narrative, the exposition ends and the rising action begins. • This moment is called the inciting incident. This is the moment when the conflict is introduced.

RISING ACTION • Any event that occurs after the exposition but before the climax or turning point of the story is called rising action. • A building of suspense occurs here. • Any event that occurs after the exposition but before the climax or turning point of the story is called rising action. • During the rising action, the main character or protagonist of the story may struggle with the conflict but be unable to resolve it.

CLIMAX • The climax is referred to often as the “ TURNING POINT”. • The climax is the EVENT that creates a LASTING CHANGE in the character’s life. • The climax can help determine theme of the story. • After the climax, there is no more story to tell other than the conclusion (falling action and resolution).
