Ecclesiastes 1: 1 -14 1 The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem: 2“Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless. ”

Ecclesiastes 1: 1 -14 3 What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun? 4 Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever. 5 The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises.

Ecclesiastes 1: 1 -14 6 The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course.

Ecclesiastes 1: 1 -14 7 All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again.

Ecclesiastes 1: 1 -14 12 I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid on men!

Ecclesiastes 1: 1 -14 14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Why Are You Here?

Life Without Purpose: 1. If you don’t know your purpose then life will seem empty. “Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless. ” (Ecclesiastes 1: 2 NIV)

2. If you don’t know your purpose then life can seem like a futile circle. 4 Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever. 5 The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises. 6 The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes. 3. If you don’t know your purpose in life then you’ll never really be satisfied. the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. (Ecclesiastes 1: 8 b)

4. If you don’t know your purpose, life itself will seem insignificant. Ecclesiastes 1: 11 There is no remembrance of the former generations; neither shall there be any remembrance of the latter generations that are to come, among those that shall come after. (NASB) Nobody remembers what happened yesterday. And the things that will happen tomorrow? Nobody will remember them either. Don’t count on being remembered. (Message)

Discovering God’s Purpose :

Understand God has a set purpose for you. 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love: 5 having foreordained us unto adoption as sons through Jesus Christ unto himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. (Ephesians 1: 4 -5)

We are going to be with God forever! The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. (I John 2: 17) If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14: 3)

That means we are going to live a lot longer on the other side of death than we lived on this side of it.

Share God’s Purpose With Others 18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
