Obedience Under the Sun • Vs. 2 -9 Obey the king. • Vs. 10 -14 Obedience is not always rewarded. • Vs. 10 Wicked are praised. • Vs. 11 Evil is encouraged when not punished. • Vs. 14 Wicked get the reward of the righteous and vis versa. • Vs. 15 Enjoy your life. • Vs. 16 -17 Don’t try to figure God’s work. Can’t be done.
Motives for Obedience Under the Sun Ecclesiastes 8: 5 Whoever keeps a command will know no evil thing, and the wise heart will know the proper time and the just way. Ecclesiastes 8: 11 Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil.
Obedience Beyond the Sun Ecclesiastes 8: 12– 13 12 Though a sinner does evil a hundred times and prolongs his life, yet I know that it will be well with those who fear God, because they fear before him. 13 But it will not be well with the wicked, neither will he prolong his days like a shadow, because he does not fear before God.

Fear of Being Hurt Hebrews 9: 27 “It is appointed for a man to die once, and after that comes judgement. ”
Fear of Causing Hurt Psalm 130: 4 But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. Deuteronomy 10: 12 “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul…”
Love and Fear We love most what we are most afraid of losing.
Obedience of the Son Luke 22: 41– 44 41 And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me.
