TUESDAY TASK Identify how Lila is feeling, for example when Lila overhears her mama talking about the well to the other villagers and when Lila sets off on her journey. Do her feelings change? What words could you use? Is she worried, anxious, scared, hopeful, joyful…. . ? Using the thinking bubbles template pages 1 and 2, write down how you think Lila is feeling at different points in the story. Here is my example…… I am so hot and tired. I feel weak today and I am a bit sad because the cows are thirsty and so am I.

I would like you to re-read the book and look at the way the author has described the settings at different points in the story. Hunt for expanded noun phrases, adjectives, similes, desciptive language. My favourite simile is Clouds began to fill the sky like flocks of white birds. Now do one of the tasks on the next two slides.

THURSDAY TASK Today you are going to write a book review of Lila and the secret of rain. • A book review includes the title of the book along with the author. It usually heavily relies on your opinion of the book, whether it is good or bad. Think about what happens in the story, without giving too much of the plot away. • You may also talk about your favourite part of the book as well as what you didn’t like about the book. Don’t forget to give reasons why. • A book review also involves whether you would recommend this book to other readers. When writing your review of Lila and the secret of rain, remember your sentence rules – capital letters, finger spaces, spellings (use your phonics to write words independently as well) and full stops. Explore with punctuation such exclamation marks.

Using Time Linking Words To make sure that the events are in the correct order, it is helpful to include time linking words. You might want to use ‘first’, ‘next’ or ‘then’. Look at the events below. Can you think of different time linking words that the writer could use at the start of each sentence to show the order that the events happened in? First, I felt a cool breeze and the dust began to dance. Then, I saw the clouds roll in and the sky turned grey. Next, I heard a loud crash of thunder and I saw a flash of lightning.
