NLT Matthew 9: 9 -13 9 As Jesus walking along, he saw a man

NLT Matthew 9: 9 -13 9 As Jesus walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple, ” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him. 10 Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. 11 But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with such scum? ” 12 When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. ” 13 Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices. ’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners. ” I. NLT Matthew 12: 1 -8 1 At about that time Jesus walking through some

NLT Matthew 12: 1 -8 1 At about that time Jesus walking through some grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, so they began breaking off some heads of grain and eating them. 2 But some Pharisees saw them do it and protested, “Look, your disciples are breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath. ” 3 Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He went into the house of God, and he and his companions broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. 5 And haven’t you read in the law of Moses that the priests on duty in the Temple may work on the Sabbath? 6 I tell you, there is one here who is even greater than the Temple! 7 But you would not have condemned my innocent disciples if you knew the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices. ’ 8 For the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!” II. COMPASSION SEES HUNGER AS GREATER THAN RULES

NLT Mark 1: 40 -44 40 A man with leprosy came and knelt in

NLT Mark 1: 40 -44 40 A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean, ” he said. 41 Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing, ” he said. “Be healed!” 42 Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed. 43 Then Jesus sent him on his way with a stern warning: 44“Don’t tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed. ” III. COMPASSION SEES POSSIBILITY FOR TESTIMONY BIGGER THAN POSSIBILITY FOR CONTAGION
