Shape of Training • Report of UK Shape of Training Steering group published 11 August with four-nation ministerial statement • Supports JRCPTB proposed model with 2 specialty groups 1. Dual train with internal medicine and cover acute unselected take 2. Single train and not provide acute care
Development of Internal Medicine (IM) curriculum • Internal medicine committee and three subgroups tasked with developing curriculum • Input from SACs, trainees, employers and lay representatives • Stakeholder events • Wide ranging consultation
IM stage 1 curriculum • 14 capabilities in practice (Ci. Ps) • Key presentations and conditions that are common or serious • Practical procedures • Includes / mapped to GMC’s generic professional capabilities (GPCs)
Programme of assessment • Holistic assessment based on Ci. Ps • Expert judgement of supervisors • Level of supervision required for each Ci. P with critical progression points • Evidence from MCRs, workplace-based and knowledge-based assessment
Timeline • • • Stage 1 curriculum submitted to the GMC in July Approval decision expected early October Implementation August 2019 Group 1 specialties can recruit after IM 2 in 2021 Group 2 specialties’ programmes will start in 2022
Next steps • Plan for implementation of IM stage 1 to replace CMT from August 2019 • Training the trainers • Continue to work with SACs, GMC and doctors in training to develop specialty curricula • Ongoing communication • Information available on JRCPTB website
