The company is based in the lower East-Side of Manhattan, New York. I was unable to locate much background info on the Co-founders, except that Strickler seems to be a journalist and has a Tumblr blog. Purpose Kick Starter is allegedly the largest of a new breed of business-model for companies called “Crowd-Funding” organizations. The model is that Kick Starter is a base for communication that permits companies and individuals to network to obtain funds on a project-by-project bases. Most of the clients tend to be creative people like myself, that operate small Indie Film companies or Indie Bands trying to output a movie or an album and are in dire need of funding to do so. Because Kick Starter is based in Manhattan, where there is a large arts community, the company has achieved much of its initial growth from within Manhattan. Kick Starter earns 5% of moneys raised per-project for their service.
