History The University was originally planned to be located in Palos Verdes. Currently, the campus sits on Rancho San Pedro, which is the oldest land grant in the Los Angeles area. A man named A. Quincy Jones designed the construction plan for the University. When the first classes were scheduled to begin, the construction was not completed so the classes were held in the California Federal Savings Bank. The main reason Cal State Dominguez Hills was established was because African Americans were demanding a higher education and to have better opportunities.
