� The Coastal Plains region is the largest region. It also has the most

� The Coastal Plains region is the largest region. It also has the most residents of any of the 4 regions. � This region has several major rivers which were essential to the first settlers in this area. This eventually led to the development of major cities in this region. � The Coastal Plains consists of large flat lands. They experience long, hot summers and mild winters. � There are several major cities in the CP, including Dallas, Houston, Corpus Christi, Brownsville and San Antonio. � The CP is rich in natural resources including oil and lumber. Businesses in this area include farming, ranching and tourism. � This natural region extends throughout the southwest along the Gulf of Mexico Coastal Plains

Even though the land is high, it is also primarily flat. ◦ There are 2 large plateaus in this area: High Plains and Edwards Plateau ◦ Additionally, the Llano Basin-egg-shaped area made of pink granite, can be found here. �The Great Plains is home to major cities such as Amarillo, Lubbock, and Midland. �Prime industries in this area include sorghum, wheat, and petroleum/gas drilling. �The great plains is not just in Texas either, this regions extends all the way to Canada. � The Mountains and Basins region is the smallest region of Texas. It also happens to be the least populated. � There are very few natural resources due to dry arid climate and desert lands. However, clay, cotton, goat herding and cultural artisans are popular businesses. � The only major city in this region is El Paso. This area is also home to one of the largest border crossings from the US to Mexico. � This region is located at the base of the Rocky Mountain System. � Additionally, Guadalupe Peak (highest in TX) and the Davis Mountains located here, along with Mc. Donald Observatory. ◦ Home to Big Bend National Park Mountains & Basins
