Our Focus Today THE RESPONSIBILITY OF SAUL TO DESTROY THE AMALEKITES THE REPROOF OF SAUL BY SAMUEL THE REJECTION OF SAUL BY GOD

• The instruction was very clear – Go and smite the Amalekites Beware of partial Obedience – Utterly destroy all that they have – Spare them not (including AGAG) – Slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass” (verse 3) • Even though Saul obeyed most of the instructions, God will not accept incomplete obedience

How does this apply to youths today? Realise areas where you have been disobedient Confess them to God Do restitutions where necessary Accept Jesus as Lord

Samuel’s good pattern of correction • Reminded Saul of the honour God showed him in making him king – 1 Samuel 15: 17 • Reminded Saul of the assignment God gave him and how he had not fully obeyed – 1 Samuel 15: 18 • Rebuked then followed – 1 Sam 15: 19

Some Other Bad Habits of Saul • Took credit for the success, but transferred the blame of failure to the people – 1 Samuel 15: 20, 21; 1 Sam. 13: 3, 4; 18: 5 -9 • Was more conscious of his position and honour before the people that the issue of his disobedience – 1 Samuel 15: 24, 25, 30; 1 Samuel 2: 30 • Rather than repent, gave excuses – 1 Samuel 15: 24, 25, 30

What can we learn from Saul’s rejection? • He waited for pronouncement of judgment before he repented! • His prayer was to Samuel not to God (verse 25) • We must not change the instruction of God for whatever reason (Rev. 22: 18, 19) • We must not follow multitude to do evil (Exodus 23: 2). • We must also reject all evil suggestions and hold fast to what they have in God lest any man take our place (Proverbs 1: 10; Revelation 2: 25; 3: 11)

• Christian youths or leaders, you must not go along with anyone who rejects or dishonors God In conclusion • Whoever God rejects, we must also reject • God did not overlook Saul’s disobedience; He will not overlook that of today’s youths – 1 Samuel 15: 25 -29; Psalm 75: 6, 7

Questions How can youths escape the wrath of God? Mention people in the Bible who repented immediately after being rebuked. What was the consequence of Saul’s disobedience? What can we learn from Saul’s experience?
