What is sound and how do we hear
- Slides: 10
What is sound and how do we hear it? Sound is what we hear with our ears. It is heard by the little bone in our ear called the ear drum.
What is frequency? the rate per second of a vibration constituting a wave, either in a material (as in sound waves), or in an electromagnetic field (as in radio waves and light).
What is amplitude? The maximum extent of a vibration or oscillation, measured from the position of equilibrium.
Definition of the microphone An instrument for converting sound waves into electrical energy variations which may then be amplified, transmitted, or recorded.
Dynamic and condense microphones Dynamic- a microphone in which the sound waves cause a movable wire or coil to vibrate in a magnetic field and thus induce a current. Condense- a microphone in which the sound waves cause a variation in capacitance, the vibrating diaphragm acting as one plate of a condenser.
Unidirectional Moving or operating in a single direction.
Cardioid Microphone A directional microphone with a heart-shaped pattern of sensitivity.
Bidirectional Functioning in two directions.
