Saung Angklung Udjo is one-stop cultural workshop, consists of: performance venue, bamboo handicraft centre and bamboo instrument workshop. Apart from that, Saung Angklung Udjo has an honorable function as an educational laboratory and training centre to preserve the Sundanese culture- Angklung in particular. Angklung is an Indonesian musical instrument that is made from bamboo. It is made up from eight or more individual frames, each producing one of eight notes on the musical scale. Depending on the types of Angklug, the musician either shake or strikes the frame to produce music. When combined with ither instruments in an orchestra, the angklung produce a beautiful sound. In Saung Angklung Udjo, we enjoy not only Angklung ochestra, but also wayang golek (wooden pupet), and traditional dance. It is so interesting to watch as well as listen to. Besides, we also can play the angklung. To get to Saung Angklung Udjo, we need 1 hour from the hotel. Please enjoy your trip, remain seated until we reach our destination. If you have any question, please don’t hesistate to ask.

Wayang Golek Wayang golek is a traditional Sundanese theater drama performed by wooden puppets. At the beginning of the performace, all the pupets that will be in the show are lined up in front of the stage. The puppets on the left are the bad guys, and on the right are the good one. Wayang is written to characterize different aspects of human personality-greed, anger, lust, emphaty, joy, etc. There are many popular renditions, but they all deliver a moral message. Usually, teh message is to treat others as you want to be treated. A full perfomance of Wayang Golek typically goes for eight hours, but here it only goes for 2 hours.

Children orchestra The children who play in the orchestra come from the surrounding Kampung (village). Most of them come to Saung every evening for just one or two hours angklung lessons. They do not need to spend money to take this course, rather they receive money. The amount depends on how many visitors watch the performances – usually a fairly small amount, but this is not important for them in comparison to the happiness of playing angklung music. Today, there have been 250 to 300 children playing in the orchestra.

Think of other attractions in Bandung or other cities. You may work in Pair on individual. If you work in pair, one becomes the tour guide and the other one becomes the tourist. Try to welcome the tourist (like the previous examples), and give the information about the attraction that you have prepared. Present it in front of the class.

• Think of three attraction in your area or other cities. Browse a picture, and give description to each of them using your own words.
