ABOUT THE COURSE • English 3 is focused on American Literature. • This course

ABOUT THE COURSE • English 3 is focused on American Literature. • This course is designed to challenge and expose students to a variety of literary genres and authors. • We began the year reading selections from The Glass Castle and doing rhetorical analyses. • We will be reading major works such The Bluest Eye, The Things They Carried, and Like Water for Chocolate.

GRADING • Grades are comprised of Major grades (70%) and Minor grades (30%). •

GRADING • Grades are comprised of Major grades (70%) and Minor grades (30%). • Major grades are summative assessments like essays, exams, and projects. • Minor grades are the formative assessments that we do daily like homework, class activities, short quizzes. Etc. • There are usually 3 -4 major grades every grading cycle.

THE HUB AND LESSON PLANS • All assignments and lesson plans are posted on

THE HUB AND LESSON PLANS • All assignments and lesson plans are posted on the HUB, whether we are virtual or not. • Anytime a student is absent, he/she can log into the HUB and see what assignments are due. • Weekly lesson plans are posted on Mondays before 8: 00 am. • The link for that is available on the school website. • During virtual instruction, all weekly assignments are

LATE WORK POLICY • Late homework and assignments will usually be accepted with a

LATE WORK POLICY • Late homework and assignments will usually be accepted with a late penalty. • Students have until the Monday after an assignment is due to turn it in to the “Late Work” folder on the HUB. • Every Monday, the most updated grades will be posted. • I am unable to accept any assignment that is not submitted by the late deadline except in the case of dire emergencies. • Please encourage your child to immediately communicate any issues that may prevent them from turning in work.

LIVE/FLEX INSTRUCTION DURING VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION • Students attend live classes for 30 minutes. •

LIVE/FLEX INSTRUCTION DURING VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION • Students attend live classes for 30 minutes. • After the live sessions, there is one hour of flex time. • This time is meant for students to work on their assignments, work together in groups, or meet with their teacher for extra help. • Please encourage your child to stay after live sessions and get extra help when necessary.
