Understanding CIGNA Medicare Surround Medicare Advantage. § The plan that Cobb County currently has today is defined as a Medicare Advantage Plan. § Medicare Advantage is a product that replaces Medicare, there are no networks no mandatory selection of a Primary Care Physician is required. § The product is designed to provide additional benefits beyond what Medicare covers. § A retiree may go to any Doctor/ Hospital who accepts Medicare and the terms of the CIGNA Medicare Advantage plan. § This plan has been appealing to retirees as it is a national solution for all retirees and it presents an affordable option that lowers out of pocket cost and allows for greater choice. § Dedicated Call and Service teams are in place to support PFFS inquiries 8 am to 8 pm 5 days weekly. Medicare Surround. § The plan that Cobb County has selected for 2011 is CIGNA Medicare Surround. § Similar to Medicare Advantage there are no networks and no mandatory selection of a PCP is required. § This is a medical plan that supplements Medicare rather than replacing Medicare. § The plan design offsets, deductibles, co-payments and out-of -pocket medical costs not covered by Medicare. § CIGNA Medicare Surround will cover Retirees and their spouses who are age 65 and entitled to Medicare. § By moving to this plan you have greater access to Doctors and Hospitals that may not participate in the program that you are currently enrolled in today. § This is a national plan and coverage is available to residents of all states. § Similar to today you will only be responsible for your portion of the cost share. § The Doctor or hospital submits the claims directly to Medicare and CIGNA will electronically collect the claim from Medicare's system. § No paper forms are needed. § Additionally, you will be able to call a dedicated toll free customer service center 24 hours a day 7 days a week to assist you and your dependents. § The ability to improve stronger Doctor participation coupled with the higher services levels will provide a more robust healthcare experience for you. 1 Confidential, unpublished property of CIGNA.
