Set up • Pick a good location- flat ground, clear of sticks, dry leaves and grass, away from tents • Cooking circle – sit in a circle, always walk around the outside (not through the middle) • Never in a tent – dangerous fumes (poor ventilation), tents melt, gear is flammable
Methylated spirits (Metho) • Highly flammable • Poisonous to drink • Toxic to breathe
Methylated spirits (Metho) • No need to over fill the burner with metho • Let the burner run out and cool before added more metho • Keep the metho away from the cooking area and refill the burner at least 10 m from the circle
Methylated spirits (Metho) Is the metho burning? If you can’t see a flame, check with hand for heat by holding it above the Trangia and moving slowly closer
The Burner Get as close as possible before placing simmer ring over the flame. Use Spondonicles to help if flame is too hot
The Burner Only put the screw lid on after the flame is out and the burner is cool, otherwise the rubber seal will melt Burner Simmer ring Screw lid with rubber seal
Remember it’s hot! • Don’t leave the Spondonicles on the Trangia when cooking, they will get hot • When taking the fry pan off don’t put the wet side down on the dirt • Ensure the lid is properly on the burner, and the burner is cool before packing away
