This leads to global warming Solution : replace fossil fuels with renewable energy. q Deforestation Problem: forests are being destroyed for construction and cattle ranching. This leads to species extinction. Solution: restore degraded areas by replanting with trees. q Species extinction Problem : wild animals are being hunted for bushmeat, ivory and medicinal products. Threatened and endangered species continue to grow. Solution : protection against poaching and wildlife trade.

q Soil degradation Problem : overgrazing, erosion, monoculture planting, overexposure to pollutants. Solution : soil conservation and restoration techniques, ensure food security q Overpopulation Problem : pressure on natural resources, leading to extreme poverty. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and. celebrated in more than 193 countries each year. World environment day World Environment Day occurs on 5 June every year, is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. WED has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs and communities.

Campaigns by environmentalists, India 1. Mansukhlal Raghavjibhai Prajapati. He is the founder of Multi Cool Fridge. It is used to store perishable items for a week. 2. Chewang Norphel. He is a civil engineer who has developed artificial glaciers to increase groundwater. 3. Madhu Bhatnagar – She created an environmental education policy in New Delhi to implement roof- top rainwater harvesting. 4. Tilak Vij – He created six nature clubs and encouraged growing trees to increase the state’s green cover.
