Preface Thomas Alva Edison Was Rather an inventor than a Scientist. With the creation of the light bulb, electric generating system, sound-recording device, motion picture projector, and his observations on the Edison Effect he helped to shape and accelerate the modern society.

Life l l l 1847 born on February 11 th in Milan, Ohio. 7 th and last child. Parents were Samuel Edison Jr. & Nancy Elliot Edison. He only attended school for three months in port Huron, Mich. He began selling newspapers when he was twelve years old. He was known as Alva up until his 2 nd marriage.

Life l l l 1854 moved to port Huron, Mich. 1863 he became an apprentice telegrapher. 1876 he built a laboratory and a machine shop. 1883 observed the Edison effect. 1931 died in West Orange on October 18. He lived exactly 84 years, 8 months and 7 days.

Inventions 1872 − Invented the motograph. − Invented the automatic telegraph system. − Invented duplex, quadruplex, sextuplex, and multiplex − telegraph system − Invented the carbon rheostat 1875 − Discovered “Etheric Force”, and electric phenomenon that is the foundation of wireless telegraphy. − 1876 − Invented the electric pen used for the first mimeographs.

Inventions − − − 1877 Invented the carbon telephone transmitter, including the microphone used in radio. Invented his favorite creation, the phonograph. 1879 Discovered incandescent light. Radically improved dynamos and generators discovered a system of distribution, regulation, and measurement of electric current switches, sockets, and meters 1880 Discovered the “Edison Effect”, the fundamental principle of electronics.
