Plot 1 : Summary • Hagar finds the night treatment unpleasant - night treatment by the Dr. Corby • Marvin and Doris are insensitive about the results. • Reverend Troy is invited again. She indicates that her problem with God is being unmerciful after losing John. • Marvin indicates she is to move to the home next week.

Plot 2 • hagar spends much time waiting for life to get better : • • reevaluates life. has to be more than this. Marvin is trained to do chores. Life with Bram is tough - drink a lot - doesn’t work hard - embarrasses her with in-town activities yet, she never rejected his advances. John appears to be her favorite - more lively than Marvin

Plot 2 - Continued • Bram wasn’t as patient with John as Marvin. • IRONY -John appears more like her - independent, lively, stubborn, wild. • Marvin goes to WWI - She couldn’t bring herself to bring him comfort as he goes. • Marvin never returns home - goes to the coast after the war. • hagar sells eggs in Marvin’s absence. She is embarrassed at selling eggs to little “no name(Lottie)” Simmons ( she has married Telford )

Plot 2 - Continued • She then goes to a public restroom and sees herself in a mirror - much ashamed • She pleads for credit in her father’s old store - leaves ashamed after overhearing her husband causing a commotion. • Bram has embarrassed her for the last time!!! • She sells things from home to raise money for a trip - ironically to Lottie.
