”The Lottery” Shirley Jackson
Discuss each of the following questions with your face partner. Partner Discussion: 1. What is a tradition? 2. How do traditions differ from routines? 3. Brainstorm: What are some examples of traditions that people take part in?
§In the journal section of Tradition Journal Entry your notebook, write about a tradition you have. Don’t stop writing until the timer goes off! §What is it? When is it? Who takes part in it? §Paint a picture! Be detailed!
§For the next 4 minutes, Share! Talk about the tradition you wrote about with your shoulder partner. §Shoulder partner take notes! You will share your partner’s tradition with your pod.
§ For the next 2 minutes, you will Share! Round Robin all share about each other’s traditions (each person will have 30 seconds to share). § We will start with the person who is wearing the brightest colored shirt and rotate clockwise.
§For the next 5 minutes, With your pod… discuss the following questions with your face partner: 1. How do traditions start? 2. What can cause traditions to change? 3. Why do you think people value traditions so much?
