ABOUT CIRCLE ECONOMY Circle Economy is organised as a social enterprise, that focuses on practical and scalable projects and activities to accelerate the transition towards a circular economy Circle Economy has 40 members. We work with 1. 200+ companies 2. 10+ cities 3. Develop digital tools 4. Run 5 sector programmes (cities, textile, built environment, finance, design) 5. Partner of World Economic Forum, C 40, Eurocities, Ashoka etc.
Circular Economy in Holland: What happened? ● ● ● 2011: A world in transition, sustainability fatigue 2013: Green Deal: 50 projects to be started under "Netherlands Hotspot for a Circular Economy" (supported by the government, cities and non profits, think tanks) 2014: Circular Enterpreneurship: bring the business community together (programmes with government funds: 2 mio EUR/year) 2016: Launch roadmap: "A circular economy in the Netherlands by 2050" 2016: Within Dutch EU presidency campaign "Netherlands as a circular hotspot"” 2016: "City Deal": signed by Amsterdam and 8 other Dutch cities, government agencies, universities, and companies
THE NETHERLANDS CIRCULAR BY 2050 A. The need (environmental, social, economic) B. The opportunity: 54. 000 new jobs and € 7 bn added value to economy C. Focus -) fostering legislation and regulations; -) intelligent market incentives; -) financing; -) knowledge and innovation; -) international cooperation It includes all programmes aimed at handling raw materials more efficiently: e. g. the From Waste to Resource (VANG), Green Growth and Biobased Economy programmes D. Next steps: transition agendas
