L@lynnschools. org Met the Teacher 781 -346 -9105 Required Supplies • 3 Subject Notebook (5 is fine too) • Scissors • Highlighters • Glue stick • Composition Notebook • Colored pencils OR markers • Pen OR Pencil Class Supplies (not required) Mrs. Aylward grew up right here in Lynn. She attended Connery Elementary, Breed Middle School, and Lynn English High School. Go Bulldogs! Mrs. Aylward went to Norwich University, the military college of Vermont. There she studied English. After she graduated, she joined the Army, where she worked with soldiers who had PTSD. After getting married and having a baby, Mrs. Aylward left the Army to become a teacher. She got a Master’s in Education from Salem State University. Mrs. Aylward has taught Kindergarten, 1 st, 5 th, 10 th, and now 6 th grade! • • • Hand Sanitizer Box of tissues Red Pens Dry erase markers Dry erase board spray Our New Curriculum This year, all of the middle schools in Lynn are using a brand-new English curriculum, called Collections. Students will receive a hardcover book with all of the readings, as well as a Close Reading workbook. This new curriculum focuses on Close Reading of both fiction and nonfiction texts. It challenges students to read more complicated texts and write more in depth on a variety of different topics. Fun Fact: Mrs. Aylward once rode a donkey around a pyramid in Egypt.

You’ll receive a rubric that will go into your notebook which will teach you how to get 4 points on every HW assignment. For each day your HW is late, you will lose 1 point. Article of the Week Special Assignments Every Monday, you will be assigned an article of the week. This will either come from your Close Reader Workbook or from a handout. You will not be able to just copy a friend and hand it in. Each week you will have 10 -15 vocabulary words. We will go over how to put them in your notebook. 40 Book Challenge Mrs. Aylward challenges you to read 40 books this school year!! Book of the Month Similar to the article of the week, each month you will take one of the many books you’ve read that month, and write a one page reflection on it. This will count as a Quiz Grade as well. We will go over this assignment more in -depth later. It will be due on the last school day before the end of each month.
