SRO Role – key to successful change The SRO is the owner of, and accountable for, delivery of the proposed change. They are the key leadership figure to drive the change forward. It is therefore crucial they give the time necessary to perform the role effectively, and Identify and address any areas of personal development to support their effectiveness. The following are the key responsibilities of an SRO. Participate visibly throughout Be active and engaged, not just a figurehead Support the Team • Proactively remove obstacles • Provide resources and control the budget • Understand the business change, its impact and the desired future state • Broker relationships with stakeholders • Have a good understanding of the business issues associated with the change Champion the change • Actively support and participate in change management activities and messages • Own the change • Build excitement and enthusiasm • Be the first adopter Communicate and promote the change To impacted groups • Communicate the end vision • Create awareness about the need for change • Vocally support the change • Advocate the change to impacted groups that might be resistant • Clearly and succinctly explain the ‘what’s in it for me? ’ (WIIFM) of the change to impacted groups • Create a network of change champions To other stakeholders • Engage across the organisation • Lead on member engagement • Encourage senior leaders and managers to participate and support • Clarify roles and establish expectations with mid-level and frontline managers • Solicit and listen to management feedback Implement effective governance • • Define the governance arrangements and chair a Board/Steering Group to direct and assure delivery Ensure change objectives are aligned to strategy and business plans Oversee and contribute to development of a business case Ensure achievement of objectives and benefits Provide/facilitate advice and guidance as necessary Facilitate honest and open progress reporting Ensure recognition is given when things go right and put things right when they go wrong
