SPORT IN ENGLAND The English like many sport and some sports were born in this country, f. e. rugby and football. Popular sports are rugby, football, golf, cricket, tennis and so on. The British like horse riding, above all horse racing. For nearly 200 years boat racing of Oxford and Cambridge has been a major sporting event.

SPORT IN THE USA Typical sports in the USA are baseball, basketball, american football, ice hockey and others. The Americans like sport very much and many people do sport for their relaxing.

OLYMPIC GAMES The Olympic games were first held in 776 BC and then every four years. It was in the Greek town of Olympia. The first Games in modern history were held in Athens in 1896. They were proposed by Pierre de Coubertin. The first winter Olympic games were held in Chamonix , France, in 1924. These days, the Olympics are held every two years, the Summer and Winter Games alternating.
