Diegetic and non-diegetic Diegetic sounds are the sounds that the character can hear like

Diegetic and non-diegetic Diegetic sounds are the sounds that the character can hear like dialogue, ambient sounds (for example if the character is in a forest they would be able to hear nature sounds and if they were in a bust city they would hear things such as cars going by. ) and sounds made by object in the story for example a phone rings or a knock at the door. Non-diegetic sounds are things such as narration, music that isn’t in the story for example the fight scene at the end of the Rocky film where there's music that the audience can hear but the characters can’t. Diegetic and non-diegetic sounds can sometimes cross into each other for example a character is in a car and turns on the radio and plays some music. That starts off as diegetic sound but then the titles come up and the music is still playing, it then becomes non-diegetic sound.

Copyright with sound applies to soundtracks (lyrics and music and be owned by more than one person) , noises such as the blaster sound from star wars If you create your own soundtrack then it automatically has copyright and that means that it belongs to you and protects you from anyone who wants to seal it. when using someone else’s content without permission and you are making money for what ever you’ve used it in then you could get sued by the owner of the content. If you are going to make money off what ever you’re using their content in when you must get permission to use it by paying royalties, crediting the content and you might have to agree on a contract maybe for a certain amount of time you can use that piece of content for. However if you’re not making any profit then there is something you can use called free use which applies if the content is used in remixes, parodies, commentary and criticism. https: //www. youtube. com/yt/copyright/

The matrix- https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=KNr. SNca. Yi. Zg The mood in this scene changes from first being tense at the start and then it becomes exciting and heart racing. At the beginning the music is low and the use of close ups makes it very tense. Then the mood and pace pick up a notch, the use of high droning bass instruments sound and keep building when the protagonists are about to do something. The music builds to a point then there is silence to emphasise the action that is about to happen. When the explosion happens in slow motion the sound slows down as well, this is to complement the imagery and to show cool it is. The pace slows down so the audience can take it in and say ‘aww’. The mood, pace and tone change to fast and exciting when the actions starts, again you can hear high pitched bass instruments to make the protagonists seem more heroic. Then the bad guy comes out and the music changes to a low opposite to the music that went with the protagonists. It also tells the audience that the bad guy’s here and you should be scared and the shot of the camera zooming in on one of the protagonists faces says that’s what the audience should be feeling too. Some of the sound effects used are very digital sounding for example when the bad guy changes into the guy in the helicopter and then when he changes back. Those sounds go hand in hand with the genre of the film and the whole storyline of being in a digital world.

Band of brothershttps: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=5 M 60 Eu 1 U 8 ls In this scene from band of brothers, there is no musical score which sets the tone of the scene to feel real. It starts very clam with the characters making small talk then the pace and the tone of the scene change when you hear the bang when the door opens, suddenly you can hear the sound of quick footsteps, louder talking and the dogs starts barking. Then it cuts to a type writing shot, it’s quite with on other noise apart from the type writer. This scene uses its silence to let the audience take in the dramatic imagines from the last. We then go back to the soldiers who are moving though a field, we can hear the rustling of bushes and the sound of the solders equipment moving about. When the action starts, there’s no heroic music playing like there was in the action scene from the matrix. There is still no musical score. This is every effective when setting a realist narrative because it makes it feel real to the audience watching.

Hannibal- https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=jcf. WWc. QO 6 OY In this scene from NBC’s Hannibal it starts off in a crime lab with the sounds of machines beeping and ringing of phone with no musical score. Making it so that when the music starts its more dramatic especially with the imagines to go with it. Then it goes back to the lab and its quite again but only for another dramatic burst of classically music. At first the music and the imagines are quite opposite each other, one being civilised and the other looking very animalistic and disturbing. But as it goes on the music and the imagines start coming together, what was once animalistic has turned into fine dining which is what we would associate the music with. The pace gets faster and faster as the cooking progresses and then at the end it comes down when the cooking has finished. The mood of this scene starts off being serious, then it goes into a very dark tone when we see that he’s cooking and eating someone's leg.
