SOCIAL CLASS AND THE HIDDEN CURRICULUM OF WORK Jean Anyon
WARM UP IN JOURNALS You are now going to design your dream school and be prepared to present your findings to the rest of the class. (30 min) What is the school’s name and why? How does this school look like? What kind of teachers would you want at your school? Which kind of programs would you have available to your students? How would you educate students? How would you make sure that all students have access to all of the resources they need to succeed? * Make sure to cite Sir Ken Robinson’s video in your findings.
TODAY’S READING IN GROUPS Today we will be analyzing Jean Anyon's article in groups. I will highlight the information that you and your group is responsible for. You will then present the school that Jean Anyon is talking about. Your posters should include the following information: The names types of school you were assigned. Example: Working class (2), Middle Class, Affluent Professional School, Executive Elite School. What population the school is made up of. (Ex. Average Income Level, What type of occupations the parents hold in that school) What type of learning goes on in the class room? How work here is evaluated. An example of what the teachers think of their students. The Pro's and Con's of this school and why. Your presentations will be due on Friday!
