WHAT ARE THE SEVEN SACRED TEACHINGS? The Seven Sacred Teachings are values based on First Nations cultural tradition that reinforces the teachings of our Catholic faith. Each teaching honours one of the basic virtues to help us to live a full and healthy life: Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, and Truth. Each of these Sacred Teachings is represented by a different animal and provides practical and positive traits
HONESTY (Gwekwaadziwin) Be honest with yourself and recognize the honesty within others.
HUMILITY (Dbaadendizin) Be humble and recognize how little you know of the universe.
TRUTH (Debwewin) Learn truth, live with it, walk with it, and speak it.
WISDOM (Nbwaakaawin) Know the difference between good and bad and the result of actions.
LOVE (Zaagidwin) Learn to love unconditionally.
RESPECT (Mnaadendmowin) Show respect for others, their beliefs, and yourself.
BRAVERY (Aakdehewin) Do the right thing even if it causes pain.
