God Has Paths for Us to Walk • Israel sought its own paths instead of following the Lord’s (Jeremiah 18: 15). • They should have sought the old paths (Jeremiah 6: 16). • Isaiah foretold of a time when God’s people would walk in His paths (Isaiah 2: 2 -4).
The Scriptures are the Roadmap to the Old Paths
The Scriptures: Roadmap to the Old Paths • They enlighten the path (Psalm 119: 105) • They were used by God’s great restorers • Josiah (2 Kings 22: 8 -13; 23: 3) • Ezra (Ezra 7: 10; Nehemiah 8: 1 -8)
The Scriptures: Roadmap to the Old Paths • We must respect the Scriptures as… • Complete and sufficient (2 Timothy 3: 16 -17; 2 Peter 1: 3) • Absolutely authoritative (1 Cor. 14: 37; 2 Thess. 3: 14) • The source for direction in our lives (Acts 17: 11; 2 Timothy 2: 15)
We Must “Contend Earnestly” for the Old Paths • The faith was “once for all” delivered to the saints (Jude 3). • We must ponder our path (Proverbs 4: 26). • We must do all in the name of the Lord (Colossians 3: 17).
The Old Paths… • Are Traditional but not Pharisaical (Matthew 15: 1 -9; 1 Cor. 11: 2; 2 Thess. 2: 15) • Are Structured but not Stale (2 Timothy 1: 13; Philippians 3: 14 -17) • Offer Liberty but not License (1 Peter 2: 15 -16; 2 Peter 2: 17 -19) • Enable Progress without being Progressive (1 Timothy 4: 15 -16; 1 Cor. 4: 6 -8; 2 Cor. 11: 19 -20)
