X app not only captures more information from the field or the workshop - for example, by enabling people to upload photos - it also provides more timely and accurate data to the technician, who can access information such as the history of the job. These are some of the immediate benefits, but we also expect to see longer term benefits including longer life of assets through preventative maintenance, a reduction in unplanned downtime, improved safety reporting, and a reduction in the administrative effort required. All rights reserved. ǀ PUBLIC Challenge Newcrest’s mining operations run 24 x 7 with a workforce that supports the asset maintenance activities at our mine sites. The business gave Group IT and Platform the challenge to maximize operational efficiency, improve safety and increase productivity by allowing technicians to spend more time in the field. They needed a simple, intuitive mobile solution to have access to data and functionality whilst out in the field with or without network coverage. Solution SAP Cloud Platform's services and a user centred design approach were used to create an intuitive, functional and userfriendly mobile application for our field technicians. Innovative technologies including Mobile Services for offline capabilities, integration with core SAP and Open. Text ECM which provides offline and online access to data were used to provide information out in the field to technicians. Outcome By harnessing the power of SAP Cloud Platform we have delivered real business outcome to our mining operations improving safety, productivity and free cash flow. The solution has empowered our field technicians with agility to make informed decisions and report and update tasks in real time leading to increased safety and efficiency. Project or Use Case Details § Solution – ▫ A simplistic and human centric experience which is relevant to how the technicians would normally go about the job in the field. UX design workshop to engage the users; visualize and experience the application through clickable prototypes so that participants could relate themselves and visualize the experience. Additional Information Our IT & Platform team innovatively leveraged the SAP Cloud Platform to transform the user experience of our people in the field to help Newcrest improve productivity and safe work procedures. One of the challenges in our industry is to make solutions available in underground environments and at remote sites where network coverage is limited. It was a challenge for my team to delivery a robust, intuitive and user friendly mobile application with offline capability where Technicians can be supported in completing maintenance work orders and access safe work procedures while working in poor network coverage. We partnered with Mindtree to build the Work Execution (We. X) mobile application on SAP Cloud Platform using Mobile Services, integrated with SAP Business Suite and Open. Text. Partnering with Mindtree was instrumental in delivering a value adding and easy-to-use application for our field Technicians. The app was so easy to use that we overestimated the end user training and change management activities required to support the go-live - an unusual experience where change impact is often underestimated in most projects in most organisations. In 8 months since go-live, 100, 000 work orders have been carried out using this application and our sites are really enjoying the improved user experience.
