What is Professionalism? 1. Spit out your gum. 2. Quit fidgeting. Fidgeting is not a professional trait; harness your movements in order to make a good impression. 3. Expand your vocabulary.
What is Professionalism? Cont. 4. Speak more slowly and clearly in order to make a good impression. Speak with confidence. 5. Refrain from using slang; mature individuals steer clear of slang and filler words such as "like". 6. Dress maturely; go for a business casual style to make the best first impression.
Business Casual Dress • • • Crisp, neat, and appropriate Not tight nor baggy Neatly pressed (not wrinkled) Undergarments concealed No visible body piercings or tattoos
Specifics • Ties are not necessary • Long-sleeved oxfords shirts or polo shirts (ironed & tucked in) • Khaki pants (ironed cotton or synthetic – no jean) • Dark socks (no visible skin at ankles)
Specifics Cont. • Leather shoes (no sandals or athletic shoes) • Hair (including facial) should be wellgroomed • Jewelry – limited: watch & wedding ring only for men
Specifics Cont. • Skirts should be at least knee length when standing • Hose recommended for skirts • Make-up – natural looking (females only)
Grooming Tips • • Hair – clean & neat Shoes should be clean & not worn down Use a lint brush Check for missing buttons and stains
BIT Business Dress • Khaki/dress pants, Capri pants (mid calf), or skirt (must come to knee when standing) • If wearing a skirt, must have on leggings/stockings or legs must be well groomed (shaved & not ashy)
BIT Business Dress Cont. • FBLA T-shirt (ironed & neat) • White Oxford Style shirt (ironed & neat) with a tie for males • Dress blouses/sweaters (no tshirts)
BIT Business Dress Cont. • Belts must be worn on ALL bottoms unless you have discussed this with the instructor. • No pull-overs may be worn • Jackets must be a solid school color & is to be removed as soon as you enter your designated classroom • Shoes should be fitted to foot. Tennis shoes preferred (no flip flops or slides)
