One Minute Goal Setting is simply: 1. Agree on your goals with your chief/chair.

One Minute Goal Setting is simply: 1. Agree on your goals with your chief/chair. 2. See what good behavior looks like. 3. Write out each of your goals on a single sheet of paper using less than 250 words. 4. Read and re-read each goal, which requires only a minute or so each time you do it. 5. Take a minute every once in a while out of your day to look at your performance, and 6. See whether or not your behavior matches your goal.

Agree on your goals with your chief/chair. • It is imperative that you and your supervisor agree exactly on what are: – your responsibilities in the department – your longterm goals – what you believe you need in terms of time and support to complete these goals. • It may take negotiation skills. • Meetings need to be scheduled on a regular basis throughout the year.

See what good behavior looks like. • Observing others: – Find out what behaviors are effective in your fellow faculty members • Observing yourself: – You need to receive feedback on your performance from your supervisor. – This may not be freely given. But with persistence, you can train him or her to do so. – Time for daily reflection on your activities is imperative. What works? What doesn’t work?

It needs to be a personal appointment in which you show that you value yourself BY KEEPING IT!
