Purpose The National Tutoring Programme (NTP) aims to support schools in providing a sustained response to the coronavirus pandemic and to provide a longer-term contribution to closing the attainment gap. The programme will make high-quality tutoring available to schools to help disadvantaged pupils whose education has been affected by school closures.

Tuition Partners - offer for schools • Access subsidised high-quality tuition from an approved list of providers who have passed a set of quality, safeguarding and evaluation standards. • The focus of the NTP is on supporting disadvantaged pupils, including those eligible for Pupil Premium funding. However, schools are best placed to decide which of their pupils will benefit most from additional support. • Schools can apply for the number of places they would like from their preferred Tuition Partner. • The model initially focused on delivering in schools only, but in light of recent government changes the majority of Tuition Partners have been approved to deliver online at-home tutoring.

Progress to date: By Christmas, 90, 000 pupils across England had been enrolled in the National Tutoring Programme The Duchess’s Community High School, Alwnick Thorntree Academy, Middlesbrough I carried out research on My Tutor and looked at one or two of the others on the NTP website. From the start, conversations with My Tutor were positive and answered all the questions and queries I had. The fact that they were using university students as well has really helped the students engage with someone who is not that much older than them. The students are getting to know the tutors and the tutors are testing their knowledge and skills, and everything is set up to work in sync with teachers and the lessons in the classroom as well. My Tutor completes a report after each session so that there is a strong connection from the tutors to what’s taking place in the classroom, which is really good. We have allocated some of our catch-up funding to the National Tutoring Programme (NTP) and work with Third Space Learning. They provide a clear assessment at the start and you can gauge the impact of the work that the children have. We’ve worked with them before and have seen maths results improve by 30 per cent over the last three years at key stage two. We’ve looked at marginal pupils within a group who need that extra support. These pupils have tuition sessions weekly, and we use the impact reports from sessions to inform teaching within the classroom.
