Journals o o Journals are a good way for you to practice writing and reading strategies in a relevant manner You will be responsible for journal writing daily Journals will be checked every Friday All four sections must be completed as assigned.

Section 1: Goal Setting and Reflection o o At the beginning of each week, you will set a goal for the week and you will write it in your journal. Each day, you will monitor your progress as part of your warm up Each Friday, you will reflect on your goal for the week. Goal-related journal entries will be written in RED.

Daily Grammar Practice o o o Each day as the majority of your warm-up, we will be practicing our grammar. You will be examining one sentence throughout the week and responding in your journals to correct or analyze the sentence. DGP entries will be written in BLACK.

Dialectical Response o o o As we read, we will be responding to the selections we read through Dialectical Response You will choose various quotes from what you are reading and respond to them in your journal Dialectical Response entries will be written in BLUE

Personal Response o o o Throughout class, I will ask you to personally respond to various questions, thoughts, quotes, or simply just to talk about what’s up in your life These entries will be at least 3 times a week and should be completed as assigned. Personal Response will be in GREEN.

What You Need o Composition (marble) notebook n o Pens in blue, black, red, and green n o Bring it to class EVERY DAY You do not necessarily have to write the entire entry in its color, but you must use these four colors to clearly indicate which entry is which. Reading Book n Often responses will be from what you read, so you must have your personal selection book with you at all times.
