1967 – J&J tested talc powder toxicity on prisoners “The two formulations were tested in the following ways: 1) Treatment of excised blister wounds; on each of 11 volunteers two blisters were formed with Cantharidin. The blister roof was cut off and one site dusted three times daily with the buffered talc and the other with non-buffered talc; and 2) Treatment of stripped sites; two sites on the backs of 10 subjects were stripped to the glistening layer with Scotch tape. One was treated three times daily with buffered talc, the other with non-buffered talc. ” J&J Talc Comparative Studies 2

1971 –J&J commissioned a talc vs asbestos injection study on prisoners “Samples of talc, tremolite and chrysotile were submitted to Dr. Kligman under code for use in the attached study. … “Review of the data shows that in both the animal and human studies the chrysotile material gave the most severe tissue response with tremolite giving a minimal response and talc showing, in humans, an intermediate but relatively mild tissue response. ” J&J Talc Comparative Studies 9
1971 –J&J commissioned a talc vs asbestos injection study on prisoners “A volume of 0. 2 ml of each suspension was injected intradermally in rabbit flank skin and into the lower back of human adult males. ” J&J Talc Comparative Studies 10
1971 –J&J commissioned a talc vs asbestos injection study on prisoners “In the human study, the product designated ‘A’ [chrysotile] gave the greatest tissue response with product ‘B’ [talc] showing an intermediate, but relatively mild response, while product ‘C’ [tremolite] gave a minimal tissue response. ” J&J Talc Comparative Studies 11
