2012 -13 Calendar Planning Considerations • Student attendance: • Start not earlier than August 20, 2012 and end not later than May 24, 2013. • Schedule 1080 required instructional hours. • Complete 1 st Semester by Christmas. • Align attendance with key testing dates: AHSGE: PSAT: Explore, 8 th Grade: Plan, 10 th Grade: AHSGE: ARMT: AP Testing: September 23 -24, 2012 October 17 -18, 2012 October 17 -24, 2012 December 3 -7, 2012 March 18 -22, 2013 April 8 -19, 2013 May 6 to 17, 2013 (Estimated) • Reduce “short week” scheduling associated with high levels of absenteeism that undermines student achievement. • Schedule breaks so as to reduce the use of “adverse weather days. ” • Key holidays that bear upon student attendance: Labor Day: Columbus Day: Halloween: Veterans’ Day: Thanksgiving: Christmas: New Year’s Day: Martin Luther King Day President’s Day Easter Memorial Day • Other holidays: Independence Day Monday, September 3, 2012 Monday, October 8, 2012 Wednesday, October 31, 2012 Monday, November 12, 2012 Thursday, November 22, 2012 Tuesday, December 25, 2012 Tuesday, January 1, 2013 Monday, January 21, 2013 Monday, February 18, 2013 (No Student Attendance) Sunday, March 31, 2013 Monday, May 27, 2013 Wednesday, July 4, 2013 • Subject to the foregoing considerations, attempt to align student attendance days with attendance days in the Madison County and Madison City. • Schedule seven additional teacher workdays to facilitate preparation for school opening activities, data analysis, and planning focused upon raising student achievement.
