Overview for Week beginning 6 th July 2020 Watch the video clip again if you want to. I have given you lots of pictures from the book that show the different animals, birds and water creature that the Author finds on his adventures. Monday and Tuesday – Design your own fruit and vegetables for your crop garden. Produce a poster to persuade a supermarket to buy and sell your produce in its shops. Wednesday and Thursday – Plan and write a persuasive letter to the supermarket telling them about your wonderful produce even though it isn’t as beautiful as normal vegetables and fruit they need to buy this. Friday – Design your own fish and creatures that survive in the different areas of your island. This could be in streams, the sea or lakes or all three. Remember to write a short description in the same way as the book.
Monday 6 th July and Tuesday 7 th July 2020 The crop garden on the island looks a little familiar but when you look closely the produce is very strange. The fruit and vegetables are mostly familiar but the colours are not. The cherries are semi-transparent – similar to milky marbles and the rainbow veined cabbage is just as it says. Have a discussion with your family about why different coloured and shaped fruits and vegetables might be unappealing to the public. Would you buy these fruits and vegetables? Why or why not? Think of some good reasons for your opinions.

Have a look at the pictures on the next few pages that are from the book and from the Crop Garden. This may give you ideas to help with your task. Your Task: To produce a poster persuading your local supermarket to stock and supply the range of vegetables that you have growing on your island. 1. Draw the fruit and vegetables that you find around your island or in your crop garden. 2. Describe these in detail like the ones that you see in the book 3. Produce a colourful poster persuading the supermarkets to take your food and sell it to the public.
Wednesday 8 th and Thursday 9 th July 2020 Using the information from yesterday and the poster that you have produced. Your task today is to write a letter to one of the supermarkets persuading them to sell you fruit and vegetables. On the home learning sheet I have given you ideas of how to set out your letters and the vocabulary that you need to use when persuading somebody. There is a checklist to check you have included everything along with an example letter and a template to write your rough drafts on. Get your ideas together on Wednesday and write up your letter on Thursday.
Friday 10 th July 2020 On his adventures Norman came across ‘Marsh and Stream’, ‘The Magical Lake’ and ‘Along the Coast’ where he observed different types of fish and how they depended on each other or how independent they were. Your task for today: If you have an area for fish and water animals, what animals are there in there. Draw and describe your water animals in the same way that you did with your animals last week. I have included a range of pictures and explanations from the book on the next few pages to help you with ideas. Again be creative with your drawings, colour and description of each one. You can do as many as you wish or you would find in this part of your island.
