Having a sense of community is very important in our classroom. It is the highest priority to me that everyone feels safe and included. This is accomplished by having daily classroom meetings, team/class building activities and holding each other accountable for expected behavior. One such way this is done is by the Clip System. When a student is making terrific choices, and is modeling expected behavior- they have an opportunity to move their clip up. Conversely, if a child is showing unexpected behavior their clip goes down. Once a child changes their behavior- they may once again move their clip up again. Another way we reinforce expected behavior is through the use of “Brady Bucks”. When a child makes excellent choices- they get a “Brady Buck”. This can be redeemed in the class store. Our school district currently uses My Math from Mc. Graw Hill. Students can access this math program at home by visiting: www. connected. com Usernames and passwords will be sent home at the beginning of the year. Math will be from 1: 00 – 2: 15 p. m. Our school district currently uses Ready. Gen by Pearson. Over the course of the year we will cover 6 big ideas. They are: Unit 1: Understanding Communities Unit 2: Making Decisions Unit 3: Building Ideas Unit 4: Facing Challenges and Change Unit 5: Pioneering New Ideas Unit 6: Changing the World We will spend the morning completing ELA. Your child will come home with homework almost every afternoon in second grade. This will help your child with skills that they need for their continual growth in school. (This homework should take no more than 20 minutes, not including silent reading time. If it takes longer, please let me know). Your child will be able to keep track of this homework in the assignment notebook. This notebook is a great communication tool between home and school. Not only is it a great way for your child to keep track of homework and behavior, It also becomes a place for quick notes to be written since it is checked daily by both teacher and guardian. Parents are asked to initial each night indicating they have reviewed assignments.
