Friday Phonics ‘Silly Soup’ game Sentence writing

Nursery: ‘Silly Soup’ game You will need; A largish bowl and a spoon for props A selection of about eight things from around the house, some that begin with the phoneme ‘b’ eg. banana, toy bus, beads, ball, biscuit, book etc and some objects that begin with other phonemes eg. Sock, car, pen etc

Nursery: ‘Silly Soup’ game (continued) With the selection of objects visible to the child, the grown says the rhyme as they stir the imaginary soup (encourage your child to say the rhyme with you). “I’m making lots of silly soup. I’m making soup that’s silly. I’m going to cook in the fridge, To make it nice and chilly. ” The grown up invites the child to choose an object. “Does this begin with a b sound? ” If your child is unsure say the word for them emphasising the first sound. The ‘b’ object is added to the soup and other objects are put to one side. Repeat until you’ve identified all the ‘b’ objects.
