CONTROL ZONE ACTIVIT Y • Organise students into groups of 4, 5 or 6. • • • Set up a small square (1 mx 1 m) using cones with 1 player stood inside it. The remaining team members stand around the outside of the square, 2 m from the edge with a football each and place a cone between their feet. Players on the outside take it in turns to underarm throw the ball to the player inside the square. This player must control the ball and pass it back accurately. The player must take at least 2 touches to return the ball. If the ball is mis-controlled and leaves the square or the return pass forces the target player to leave their cone a point is NOT scored. Encourage the use of different body parts by throwing the ball to varying body parts; foot, thigh, chest. SCORING SYSTEM • • Only award a point if the ball is controlled inside the square and is passed back accurately to the correct target player. Using the scoresheet provided tally up the number of points awarded in 1 minute. EQUIPMEN • T Football’s for 1 per player outside of the square. • Cones to form a square and markers. • Stopwatch/Timer. SCHOOL GAMES VALUE Outstanding TEAMWORK will be needed in this activity, can you help your team-mate with accurate throws whilst still challenging him/her by throwing the ball at different heights & speeds? COVID-19 Make sure to effectively sanitize the football’s before working with a new student bubble MAKE IT INCLUSIVE You could try rolling the ball into the square to allow more students to enjoy and achieve in this challenge. TOP TIPS • • Encourage players to retract their foot/chest/thigh etc to cushion the ball on impact. Use the inside of the foot to pass the ball.
E L B B I R D M O L SLA ACTIVIT Y • Organise students into groups of 4 or 5 with a football each. • Place two cones 10 m apart in a straight line, then place cones 1 m apart along the line forming a slalom. • Starting at one end of the line challenge players to take it in turns to dribble their football left and right in between each cone. When reaching the end of the line they should turn 180 degrees and repeat the process to get back to the starting point. • If a player misses a gate they should return to complete it or the attempt is void. SCHOOL GAMES VALUE Players can keep trying to improve their score so DETERMINATION is vital to try again each time the attempt ends. COVID-19 Make sure pupils are spread out to avoid them being unnecessarily close to each other. MAKE IT INCLUSIVE SCORING SYSTEM • Time each players attempt. • If players miss out a gate, touch the ball with their hands or disrupt another group their attempt is over. EQUIPMEN • T Football’s • Cones to mark out the slalom • Stopwatch/Timer to time each attempt. Space out your cones further to allow some SEN/D students to enjoy taking part. TOP TIPS • • Use all parts of the foot to move the ball quickly. Lean to one side to push off into a new direction.
PASSING GATE ACTIVIT Y • Set up a small gate (1 m wide) using 2 cones. With students in pairs, each facing the gate, challenge them to complete passes through the gate from 1 m away each (2 m total). Once each pair have completed 5 passes both players step back 1 m and so on, each player has their own cone which they should move each time and stand infront of. How far away from the gate can the pair get in 2 mins. • • Players must use a maximum of 3 touches to return the ball to their partner, if the ball misses the gate (or hits a cone) it doesn’t count. • If the ball is mis-controlled or the target player is forced to leave their cone, it doesn’t count as a successful pass. SCORING SYSTEM • At the end of the challenge (2 mins) record the distance/steps away from the gate in whole metres. Attribute this score to both pupils. • SCHOOL GAMES VALUE Look out for students displaying HONESTY in this activity, ensure all pupils are only counting passes which pass through the gate. COVID-19 This challenge asks pupils to touch some equipment, make sure all cones and footballs have been sanitized before you start. MAKE IT INCLUSIVE If required, remove the gate and task pupils with passing the ball to a member of staff/sports leader. Passes which miss the gate, hit the cones or are mis-controlled are discounted. EQUIPMEN • T Football’s for 1 per pair. • Cones to form a gate. • Stopwatch/Timer.
