FICTION VOCABULARY • Exposition – Establishes the setting, introduces the characters, and gives the reader important background info.
FICTION VOCABULARY • Conflict – The problem of the story – the struggle between opposing forces.
FICTION VOCABULARY • Rising Action – the events in a story that move the plot forward. It involves the conflict and complications, and usually build toward a climax or turning point.
FICTION VOCABULARY • Climax – the turning point and the point of greatest interest of the story. At this point of the story, the outcome becomes clear. Ahh Haa!
FICTION VOCABULARY • Falling Action – occurs after the climax, and during this part of the story, conflicts are resolved and loose ends are tied up.

FICTION VOCABULARY • Theme – the meaning or moral of the story. What the author wants you to get out of the story – the message.
