Early Years Space project week 1 Please choose 3 (or more) activities from this sheet to do and post an observation on Tapestry of you doing each one. Have fun! Can you make a planet? Use a balloon and paper mache make a planet. Can you paint it after? What it is like on your planet? Is it hot or cold? Does anyone or anything live there? Can you go on a star hunt? Can you do some research about space? What do you want to find out? What device could you use? What kind of books could help you? Can you create a constellation collage? Can you do some space writing? Can you stick paper to the underside of your table and write upside down like a space explorer might have to? You could write a note to an astronaut. Can you read a space story? Can you (or a grown up) cut out lots of stars? Hide them around your house or garden. Draw a map of where you have put them. See if your grown-up can find them all using your map! Will you use paint, pencils, collage or something different to make your picture? What could you put in your picture? What colours will you need? How could you create constellation? Choose a space themed story to read with your grown up. What happens in the story? What characters are in the story? Did you like the story? Can you clap Space syllables? Can you build a rocket that is taller than you? Can you hit the moon rock target? Find some pictures of space related things. Can you clap the syllables in them? E. g. space has one syllable/one clap, space-ship has 2, as-tro-naut has 3, Can you identify what sound they names start with? What could you use to make it? How will you balance and join the items to make it? How will you measure if it is taller than you? If it is still shorter than you, how can you make it so that it is taller than you? Can you make some moon rocks out of scrunched up foil? Now put a box or hoop in a space. Can you stand away from it and throw your moon rocks into the hoop or box? How many times can you hit the target? Can you beat your grown up?
