• Instructions: (SBU 1) • As a group you have been given the task to find a native speaker of British, American or Australian English (somewhere in the area where you live). This person has to be invited for a guest visit to your English class Make sure that you appoint someone to take notes! You have to hold a first meeting in which you: A) make an inventory of the ideas where a native speaker can be found. B) divide tasks: who is going to search where? C) work out possible dates for the next meeting. • • •

• Instructions: (SBU 2) • You have meeting 2 to check on the progress made so far. Who is going to write the minutes? 1) what possibilities have been discovered? 2) who are you going to invite? It may be a wise idea to make a contingency plan (if person A cannot come, perhaps person B will be available? So think of at least two possibilities) 3) who is/are going to write an e-mail to invite this person? Or do you prefer making a phone call? 4) Arrange when you will meet again • •

• Instructions: (SBU 3 + 4) • You have meeting 3 to check on progress made so far. Again, appoint someone to take notes! 1) has/have the native speaker/speakers agreed? 2) draw up a list of questions you could put to your guest, taking into account what kind of person you have invited (the questions to a younger person may differ somewhat from those put to an older one; the professional background may make a difference, etc. ) 3) what are you going to tell about yourself/yourselves and about the school? 4) Finalise the plan. 5) Arrange how you will inform your teacher and your classmates. • • •

• Instructions: (SBU 5) • Inform you classmates about the native speaker who is going to visit the class. Discuss your questionaire with the class. Add suggestions for (new) questions/ topics that your classmates come up with. Together decide what you will tell about the school and your class to the native speaker. Practise this, if necessary. • •

• Instructions: (SBU 6) • • Today your native speaker will be your guest. Make sure there is someone to meet him/her in the entrance hall. Make sure the audience (your classmates) know where to be, and what time. Make sure you have got your thank-you present. It may be fun to have pictures taken (book the digital camera – Coenraad, Studiehuis). • •
