Why Write a Cover Letter? p A cover letter tells the employer which position you are applying for. p It provides aspects of your experience, skills, and education as it relates to the job you are interested in. p It shows your ability to communicate effectively in writing. This includes your writing skills (spelling, grammar) and your ability to organize and present yourself. p The cover letter is also used to request an interview. p If you write a very good cover letter, the employer will be more likely to read your resume. p A good cover letter and a good resume means you will be more likely to get a job interview.

Focused – match relevant details from your experiences to the responsibilities and qualifications of the job as stated in the ad that you are responding to. 4. Researched – refer to the company’s goals and needs. Make sure your letter is written specifically for the position/company.
