APU Continuum of Pastoral Care Level 1: Community Worship & Mutual Soul Care Heart to Heart Blueprints D-Groups Student Life works hard to foster an environment of spiritual care through prayer support, community building, and worship. This level of care is provided mostly in group settings, with minimal individual attention. Level 2: Spiritual Mentoring Spiritual mentoring is a more intensive, intentional, and specialized form of mentoring that involves faculty/staff meeting with students in one-to-one or small group settings on a regular basis, over a period of time. Pastoral care at this level involves a relationship that provides empathic support, pastoral guidance, spiritual friendship, accountability, and referrals to other levels of care. ‘At Risk’ students and Crisis Intervention CARE Team (see reverse) Community-wide Crisis Response Crisis Pastoral Care Team University Counseling Center Campus Safety Incident Command Team Rez. Life Long-term Pastoral Care (trauma, grief, chronic illness, etc. ) Campus Pastors Rez. Life RDs Christian psychotherapy University Counseling Center (individual, couples, group – skill enrichment and psychotherapy) APU Community Counseling Center Azusa area referrals Level 3: Pastoral Counseling & Spiritual Direction Intense conversations with students who are struggling with more complex theological, spiritual, vocational, and psychosocial issues. Requires advanced training and experience in spiritual development and counseling skills. Designed to provide a greater depth of specialized care. Pastoral counseling also frequently involves referrals to other levels of care. Level 4: Intensive Soul Care & Christian Psychotherapy Intensive interactions designed to intervene in individual or community-wide crises, as well as address student needs that require long-term pastoral care and/or psychotherapy. Focused on the needs of an individual student in the context of community, and is the most involved in terms of time, expertise, resources, and coordination of care. May include referrals to other levels, especially in long-term follow up.
