1 Timothy 4: 6 -10 Godliness 6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. 10 That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.

Charles Spurgeon (1834 -1892) “Beware I pray thee of presuming that you are saved.

Charles Spurgeon (1834 -1892) “Beware I pray thee of presuming that you are saved. If thy heart be renewed, if you hate things you did once love and love things you did once hate; if you have truly repented; if you have a thorough change of mind in thee; if you be born again, then you have reason to rejoice; BUT if there be no vital change, no inward godliness; if there be no love to God, no prayer, no work of the Holy Spirit, then thy saying “I am saved” is but thine own assertion and it may delude but it will not deliver thee”

David Brainerd “I care not where I live or what I endure so that I may save souls. When I sleep I dream of them and when I awake they are first in my thoughts”

John Murray (1897 -1975) “God’s working in us (sanctification) is not suspended because we work nor our working suspended because God works ……God works in us and we also work. But the relation is that because God works we work. ”

Jonathan Edwards “I have been before God, and have given myself, all that I

Jonathan Edwards “I have been before God, and have given myself, all that I am and have to God, so that I am not in any respect my own; I can challenge no right in myself; I can challenge no right in this understanding, this will, these affections that are in me; neither have any right to this body, or any of its members; no right to this tongue, these hands, or feet; no right to these senses, these eyes, these ears, this smell or taste. I have given myself clear away, and have not retained anything as my own”

Rowland Hill (18 th century Welsh evangelist) “The gospel makes husbands better husbands, wives

Rowland Hill (18 th century Welsh evangelist) “The gospel makes husbands better husbands, wives better wives, parents better parents; in a word I would not give a farthing for that man’s religion whose cat and dog were not the better for it”.

Matthew Henry “A life spent in the service of God, and in communion with Him, is the most comfortable and pleasant life that anyone can live in this world”.
