UNDERSTANDING DISABILITY • Disability is not INABILITY • We all become disable to certain extent at one point or other in life. • We get sick, injured or simply old. • We need a different environment • We may need assistance in some circumstances and occasion.

TO OVERCOME DISABILITY • Make the society at large aware and engage them in effective implementation. • To engage planners and executors of physical structures & environment around us. • Create data of requirements and resources available. • Become interface between DISABLED and OTHERS. • To enforce laws available to us at present. • To engage Govt. to enact new laws, suitably modify the existing ones and enforce them.
What Dist. 3141 Plans to Do • Awareness of Govt. Policy of Disability by conducting seminars • Awareness of Disable Friendly Environment, Infrastructure in Buildings and Public Places. • Creating Data Bank of Disabled Persons with their Disability and Skills. • Assist Absorb Persons with Disability in Mainstream Life by Training and Employment. • Microfinance to encourage Self Employment. • Mass Matchmaking of Persons with Disability.
Contd…. . • Providing Prosthetics to needy along with Medical Assistance. These includes Jaipur Foot, Tricycle, Calipers, Walkers etc. • Conduct Mass Rallies and Entertainment programs
WHAT WE HAVE • An enacted Law – Persons with Disability Act 1995. • A Promise from Govt - On International Day of Persons with Disability on 3 rd Dec 2015, our PM Shri Narendra Modi initiated a campaign that declared: • The Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan), is a nationwide flagship campaign for achieving universal accessibility for Persons with Disabilities and to create an enabling and barrier free environment, with a focus on three verticals: Built Environment; Public Transportation and Information & Communication Technologies.
Contd… • At least 50% of all the government buildings of National Capital and all the State capitals into fully accessible buildings by July 2018. All the international airports and converting them into fully accessible international airports by July 2016. A 1, A & B categories of railway stations in the country will be converted into fully accessible railway stations by July 2016.
Contd…… • At least 10% of Government owned public transport carriers in the country will be converted into fully accessible carriers by March 2018. At least 50% of all public documents issued by the Central Government and the State Governments will meet accessibility standards by March 2018.
Contd…… • Govt. is also in the process of developing a web portal along with a mobile application for creating a crowd sourcing platform to get information about inaccessible places, processing information for approving proposals and channelizing CSR resources for creating of accessible spaces. An Accessibility Index is also underway to measure the level of disabled friendliness of a system.
