User perception investigations of Flemish cycling infrastructure, simulants, safety and attitudes towards daily encountering conditions: A Hybrid choice model study Introduction: In Flanders, Belgium active mobility options are well propagated from Govt and policy makers. Therefore policy makers are considering cycling as an prominent urban mobility alterative for work and school going individuals. Thus, this study focuses on user perception, behavior considering infrastructure, experience, simulants, safety and attitude. Method: For this study a electronic survey was conducted from various users aging 18 -65 in Dutch speaking part in Flanders, Belgium. A healthy response rate was recorded with 817 participants. After taking outliers a total of 771 were used for statistical analysis. A hybrid choice model was conducted for this study, which structures the relationship between explanatory and latent variables among the parameters. Results: Results indicate that explanatory variables such as age, income, education level, dangerous intersections, infrastructure were found significant. This confirms the earlier literature for cyclists behavior. Whereas policies, implications and stimulants do not have any significant impact. Users were also satisfied with the recent mobility regulations which emphasizes and promote cyclists and pedestrians.
