z Dividing a Whole Number by a Fraction Remote Learning (Week Three) “Dividing Fractions - Lesson 1”
z This Week This week we are going to begin dividing fractions. This lesson will focus on dividing a whole number by a fraction. I promise, if you focus on the notes in this slideshow, you’re going to do well.
z Reminders
Notes: z § When dividing fractions, keep this saying in mind… § “Keep it, change it, flip it, solve it. ” § Keep the first number (your whole number) and put it over 1. § Change the division sign to a multiplication sign. ( § Flip the second fraction into an improper fraction. § Solve it. Multiply straight across like we did last week. Remember to simplify and change any improper fraction into a mixed number or whole number. ) For example: 8 x ½ = 16 Keep the 8 and put it over 1. Flip the ½ to 2 over 1. Change the sign to multiplication. I know the picture is slightly different than the directions above, but it’s the best one I could find.
